Millmerran Poppies for ANZAC Day

17 May 2018

Millmerran was alive with colour for the Anzac celebrations with 9000 red and purple poppies lining the centre garden beds of the main street. Members of the Millmerran Downs Bushwhackers craft group, along with other community-minded residents, knitted, crocheted, sewed and glued the poppies in a labour of love. Each poppy was a symbol of the thousands of Australian lives lost in overseas wars since the 1890s. The red poppies signify the soldiers and the purple poppies the animals that served beside them. The poppies not only showed respect for the many servicemen and women who laid down their lives but also the depth of community spirit alive and well in Millmerran.
