6 April 2018

The Queen’s Baton Relay ran through Oakey on Wednesday 28 March, on the way to the Commonwealth Games, which started on the Gold Coast on 4 April. Twelve baton bearers carried the baton through Oakey.

The baton was welcomed at Oakey State School by the Mura Biri Gururu Aboriginal Dancers, after being carried in by former Biddeston State School student Joanna McRae, and carried out by Adelayde McKellar, the 2017 Indigenous leader at Oakey State High School.

The baton was also cheered loudly by more than 600 students from Oakey and Biddeston State Schools, St Monica’s’ School and Cuddly Bears Childcare Centre.
