The Toowoomba Design Framework for Towns and Suburbs is a study that will outline the community values that must be considered when looking at future planning developments in Toowoomba’s regional communities.

It will protect the things we love most about our region and its towns. It will also identify how communities want their towns to adapt to meet their needs and those of future generations.

The Toowoomba Design Framework for Towns and Suburbs is part of Toowoomba Region Futures, a four-and-a-half year Council program to build a community vision for growth and development in our region for the next 30 years.

The Design Framework will outline a clear vision for the urban form of our towns and townships outside the city, as well as selected inner suburbs of Toowoomba. It will include a range of planning and urban design guidelines and recommendations on topics such as:

  • Street design
  • Building design
  • Village centres
  • Climate-responsive design
  • Ageing in place

Talking Towns: Engaging our Communities for Design Framework

Talking Towns is one of the most important conversations to have because we want to get to the heart of what makes our towns so great, what you need, and what we need to protect.

This includes natural, cultural and manmade features that are important or culturally significant.

Community engagement will occur in two phases.

This is the first phase, focused on the character of our towns.

The second phase will occur from October to November, focused on all topics.

We’ll be hosting a series of community forums in the north, west and south, talking to people at events and running workshops with industry and community groups.

You can take part by completing our survey or attending an upcoming Talking Towns event.

Remember to register to:

  1. Receive more information by email

  • Do you live in one of Toowoomba's towns or townships? Tell us what makes your town a great place to live and what services and facilities it will need in the future.

This survey is the first part of the "Talking Towns" community engagement program for regional residents to shape the future of their town. It is focused on the many towns within the Toowoomba region, and builds on earlier engagement for Council's Growth Strategy.

We want to get to the heart of what makes our towns so great, what you need, and what we need to protect, including natural, cultural and manmade features that are important or culturally significant. Your comments will help inform the Toowoomba Design Framework for Towns and Suburbs.

Throughout 2021 we will also be hosting a series of community forums in the north, west and south, talking to people at events and running workshops with industry and community groups. At the end of the survey, you will have the option to register an upcoming Talking Towns event.
