Wyreema waste management facility

Consultation has concluded. On 18 February, Council voted at its Ordinary Meeting today to rescind the resolution to build the Wyreema waste management facility project. This follows a project team report to last week's Committee Meeting recommending that this project not proceed.

Update 18 February, 2020: Council voted at its Ordinary Meeting today to rescind the resolution to build the Wyreema waste management facility project. This follows a project team report to last week's Committee Meeting recommending that this project not proceed.

This decision has been made for a variety of reasons, including a review of current operational and service levels being delivered by Council’s southern facilities as well as community feedback.

The current Greenmount facility will be able to maintain our Region’s high service level for the immediate future.

Access to the proposed facility would have seen Council investing multi-millions of dollars into a road network which also contains State-maintained roads.

Council will continue to review the operational requirements in our Southern region and plan any further upgrades in due course.

We thank stakeholders for their feedback on this project.
