Has the location been agreed by Council?

Yes. Council passed a resolution to plan for a new Tier 2 facility to cater for the southern area of our Region. Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly supportive of Council taking a long-term approach and considering the future growth of the region in siting and developing new waste management infrastructure facilities. In selecting new sites, Council considers various factors that ensure the sites meet the needs of the wider community and all sites must meet a minimum requirement of a 25 to 50-year lifespan.

Why has the location been chosen?

Council’s Greenmount facility is nearing capacity and is not suitable for future use as a waste transfer station. The new facility will replace the existing Greenmount landfill. This site has been strategically selected due to its location and the overall level of service that it can provide to residents in the region, as identified in Council’s waste infrastructure plan.

How will the facility be accessed?

Users of the facility will enter off Frank Road. Council is currently assessing appropriate routes to direct users for the facility. Road safety is a top priority in Council’s planning.

How will the remaining area of 379 Love Road be used?

Council is currently reviewing the use of the remaining area of 379 Love Road. Council has previously leased sections of the land for farming use.

How will Council mitigate littering and illegal dumping?

Littering and dumping is illegal and is governed by the relevant State Government authority. A large fine may be incurred if an offender is identified.

Council will make every attempt to locate the owner of the illegally dumped materials so we can take one of the following actions:

·  Issue a warning.

·  Issue a clean-up notice ordering the offender to remedy the offence.

·  Issue the offender with an on-the-spot fine.
